Digital commissions: UK residencies

We invite you to watch two new digital commissions as part of our international collaboration programme, Artists Connecting in Transition.

Amak Mahmoodian and Zariq Rosita-Hanif are the two artists taking part in ACT in the UK. During the programme they were in residence at the D6 studio in Newcastle where they developed new work. Drawing on this time, they created digital commissions, curated by artist and digital curator Dominic Smith.

Perempuan Macam Dia (The Women Like Her) by Zariq Rosita-Hanif

Through interweaving Malaysian and British cultural narratives and using a range of techniques - paper-cut puppetry, animation and poetry - the viewer is invited into a multi-layered story that confronts romanticising or simplifying the concept of seeking sanctuary and overcoming adversity. Dreams by Amak Mahmoodian

As an artist exiled from her homeland, Amak works with people with similar experiences. By using photography, video, texts and drawings, she creates ‘a bridge for individuals to visualise their dreams in order to define their loss and the voids in a relatable way.’ The result is a series of insights into the deeply personal space of dreams.
