Amak Mahmoodian, PhD
Amak is one of six exceptional artists engaging in our project Artists Connecting in Transition, which connects artists based in Jordan, Turkey and the UK whose practice has been disrupted by displacement and addresses issues of equality for those with and without rights.
Amak’s work questions notions of identity and home, bridging a space between personal and political. In her current photographic series, ‘Dreams’, she explores the effects of exile and distance on memory, dreams and daily life. Over the years she has worked with images, poems and archives as beginning, middle and end points in her art, seeking out the lyrical realities framed in such material.
Born in Shiraz in Iran she now lives in Bristol in the UK. In 2015, she completed a practice-based doctorate in photography at the University of South Wales, having previously studied at the Art University of Tehran. She has shown her work extensively and won numerous photography awards.
