Roots of My Longing, Alexandra Clod, 2023

Alexandra Clod

Alexandra Clod is an interdisciplinary artist and psychologist. In her practice she explores the relationship between personal and collective mythologies, ancient beliefs, rituals and their role today, reflecting on the cyclicality of nature and how it is manifested in human life. Being born in the mining area of Donetsk, Ukraine, she focusses on the impact of industrial heritage on the environmental crisis, its connection to politics and how it shapes people’s mindset.  In her art practice, she works  in analog photography, video and performance.

Alexandra is one of the artists taking part in (Re)Grounding 2024 with a residency with D6:EU in Cyprus. She plans to investigate the environmental aspects and colonial past of copper mining in Cyprus through the lens of its mythology and politics. Alexandra was one of two artists who took part in (Re)Grounding 2023 with a residency at D6 in Newcastle, UK, when she explored her grandfather’s mining heritage and the classical myths of the underworld in relation to the story of coal and its extraction in Ukraine and the North East of England.
