Dariia Dantseva

Dariia Dantseva is a biohacker, interdisciplinary artist, founder of Ukraine’s first DIY biohacker space Yanelab, and a member of the international group of biohackers Central Dogma Collective. She began her journey in biohacking at the age of 17, building a genetic laboratory in her brother's room. Together with her colleagues, she developed and tested on herself the world's first open-source DIY DNA vaccine against coronavirus, documenting the entire process and making the materials freely available. Her practice is focused on democratising science, exploring the intersection of science and art, popularising 'garage' science, environmental changes, bioart and advocating for bodily autonomy.

Dariia is one of the artists taking part in (Re)Grounding 2024, with a residency at D6:EU in Cyprus.  During the residency, she intends to conduct an in-depth analysis of the environmental impacts associated with copper mining in the region. Her research aims to investigate the effects of mining waste rock (tailings) and heavy metal pollution, as well their interaction with the local biosphere.
