Oleksandr Sirous

Oleksandr Sirous is a Ukrainian sound and media artist who navigates the complex interplay between new media, game mechanics and socio-political themes in his multidisciplinary artistic practice. He is interested in the interconnections between environmental challenges and human existence that are embodied by ecological and cultural invasions. By integrating these diverse elements into his work, Oleksandr fosters a deeper understanding of the urgent need for collective action to mitigate environmental degradation and promote sustainable futures.

Oleksandr is one of  the artists taking part in (Re)Grounding 2024 and will be in residence at D6 in Newcastle, UK. During his residency he plans to  focus on environmental issues surrounding wetlands and rivers in Ukraine and the North East of England.

He is a member of the Ukrainian artist collective Photinus Studio, which supports the development of  new media art by organising exhibitions, residencies and educational events. His background in animation and comics has influenced  his practice, including approaches to storytelling and composition in media works. More recently, he has turned to the culture of video games, game mechanics and new rules of interaction, finding new approaches at their intersection  of media art and gaming.
