ACT open call - virtual exhibition
Entitled Belonging, this is an open call for multidisciplinary artists with lived experience of forced migration, exile or displacement based anywhere in the world who are interested in taking part in a virtual exhibition as part of Artists Connecting in Transition (ACT).
We would like to welcome new artists to ACT through the virtual exhibition, which will showcase the work of twelve artists (eight from the open call and four from the previous phase of ACT). This is an opportunity for artists to present their work virtually and meet an international group of artist and producers. Belonging is the resulting exhibition that will feature artworks by the selected artists and will be curated by ACT partner arthereistanbul. The exhibition welcomes artworks in any medium, as long as as they can be presented digitally.
Key dates
Deadline for applications:19 June 2023 (11:59 CET)
Development of exhibition: 3 July - 18 December 2023
Virtual exhibition launch: December 2023
You can access the application form and read more about the open call on arthereistanbul's website.
More about ACT
Led by D6 (UK), with studio spaces MedeArts (Jordan) and arthereistanbul (Turkey), bringing in the expertise of the Fanak Fund who work across the Arab speaking world, the first phase of ACT set out to connect six artists whose practice has been disrupted by forced migration and address the challenges of artistic practice in exile. Funded by the British Council, ACT involved a programme of hybrid residencies, capacity building workshops and local exhibitions. It supported the practice of the artists, giving international visibility to their work and sharing knowledge between organisations.
The number of people fleeing wars, violence and human rights violations reached a new high by the end of 2020. ACT reconsiders new models for artist residencies in urban settings, addressing issues of reduced mobility due to exiled status. By connecting artists in their local contexts the project will contribute to addressing the inequalities of those with and without rights. Find out more here.
