kate sweeney
Kate's practice explores how familial bonds are formed beyond the materials and myths of blood and DNA. Her work often draws on sites of cultural repository and memory and is shaped by her own lived experiences. During her residency, she returned to the decommissioned Souter Lighthouse in South Tyneside, now under the care of the National Trust. Looking to the insubstantial and changeable elements of the lighthouse, Kate created new work including drawings, paintings, and sound and video sketches.

nisha duggal
Nisha works across media to explore expressions of freedom in the everyday. Her D6 residency took her back to her childhood in the North East, when she remembered seeing an armoured tank displayed outside Armstrong Works in Elswick, near where she grew up. Drawing connections between the site’s founder William Armstrong, his property at Cragside and the arms industry, she sheds light on the contested legacy of Armstrong - engineer, inventor-genius and arms dealer.

paria goodarzi
Paria is our current artist in residence whose often collaborative, socially engaged works draw from her Iranian heritage to delve into cultural and political transfers, identity and displacement. She will be sharing work in progress that explores the representation of exile, challenges abstract senses of distance and reflects on the complexities of contemporary existence within the Iranian diaspora who have made Newcastle their home.
