Who Are We? Art, Migration and the Production of Democracy, Tate Exchange, Tate Modern, 22-27th May 2018
In the past year, as you may have noticed, Britain and its place in the world has been on our minds. Back in early 2017 we started a series of research residencies responding to a call which asked for artists whose practice considered our relationship with Europe.
Our selected artists responded with project ideas connecting to, with and by refugees and migrants. In October 2017 we presented Henna Asikainen’s project Forage and Juan delGado’s film programme Common Ground as part of the biennial Arts and Refugee festival Platforma in Newcastle. We also hosted a talk by Newcastle-based artist Isabel Lima, where she presented her installation Gresham Horse, which took place in Middlesbrough.
Alongside Isabel, we were invited by Counterpoints Arts to share this work as part of Tate Exchange’s Who Are We? Art, Migration and the Production of Democracy which took place at the Tate Modern from 22 - 27 May.
