Gordon Cheung
Gordon Cheung’s work captures the mood of the global collapse of civilisation where moral, economic and environmental crises have spun out of control. The Four Riders (2009) presents cowboys endlessly riding bucking bulls. The riders are a romantic image associated with pioneering spirit as well as an allegory for our hostile relationship with the environment. The figures’ constant movement combines man and bull, creating a contemporary minotaur, an analogy of the financial ‘bull market’ and extreme corporate being.
