Experiential Souvenir Making
We partnered up with Culture Lab to explore how new digital fabrication technologies can enhance visitor experience and engage audiences during our Big M tour of On the Precipice..
We worked with PhD student Bettina Nissen through The Creative Exchange project at Culture Lab. Bettina digitally fabricated souvenirs for visitors based on their experience of the On the Precipice screening programme at each Big M touring location, such as wristbands, volvelle discs and mini replicas of The Big M that enhance their experience of the artwork and help promote further reflection.
Each souvenir is unique as they are based on each visitor’s individual feedback provided on a questionnaire postcard, which is fabricated for each visitor while they wait. The shape, design and colour the souvenir takes constantly evolves as it is based on the average opinion of previous visitors.
The pilot project has been really successful in helping us engage with The Big M visitors in a new way, allowing us to collect their thoughts and feelings about the artworks while also providing them with a souvenir in return.
The project is supported by The Creative Exchange and Culture Lab, Newcastle University.
