EU Civil Society Days
The European Union is facing an unprecedented crisis of legitimacy; support for its institutions and strategic decisions is faltering. The financial crisis, wars around Europe, terrorist attacks and the large-scale arrival of refugees have provided fertile ground for the resurgence of nationalism, authoritarianism and xenophobia. The suspension of Schengen, Brexit and the rise of populism and authoritarian parties in many Member States threatens the existence of the Union.
In the face of this continuous rise of extremist and authoritarian discourse in the public sphere, civic society plays a central role in ensuring an inclusive Europe, and opposing forces that build walls, fragment our societies, reject the vulnerable and bring back exclusion and nationalist sentiments.
Clymene has been invited to moderate a session called 'Challenging Right Wing Populism: the Role of Education and Culture' during this year's European Commission Civil Society Days taking place on 26 June from 3-6pm. Find out more and register for the event here.
