ARTISTS CONNECTING IN TRANSITION (ACT) is a new international programme hosted by D6: Culture in Transit (UK), arthereistanbul (Turkey), MedeArts (Jordan) and the Fanak Fund (working across Europe, the Arab speaking world and beyond).
ACT is a unique cultural collaboration for artists and producers, centring on artistic practice and international exchange in the context of significant global challenges and inequalities around forced migration, exile and displacement. The programme has been developed with collaboration and learning at the heart of its approach. ACT sets out to create environments of care, creativity and support for artists whose practice has been disrupted through forced migration.
From September 2022, ACT’s ambitious programme of in-person and online activities will include six artist residencies in UK, Turkey and Jordan, international workshops, a digital launch of artworks and local exhibitions.

This is an open call for visual artists with lived experience of forced migration, exile or displacement, who are interested in applying for the UK residencies hosted by D6: Culture in Transit.
D6 are looking to select and host two artists in residence, currently based in the North East of England.
EACH SELECTED ARTIST WILL BE OFFERED:
*D6 welcomes applications from artists who are currently seeking asylum or have refugee status. D6 will ensure selected artists are dealt with sensitively regarding the terms and conditions of the budget and their engagement in the programme.

- create spaces of care, creativity and support for participating artists.
- enhance the professional development of participating artists through the production of new ideas and work; and the expansion of networks and peers (locally and across the partner geographies).
- promote the practice of artists internationally by sharing work digitally and through a local presentation of work.
- bring together a network of international artists and producers/cultural operators to consider the broader global challenges of forced migration and identify opportunities for collaboration to inform a reimagined and equitable future.
This is an open call for visual artists with lived experience of forced migration, exile or displacement, who are interested in applying for the UK residencies hosted by D6: Culture in Transit.
D6 are looking to select and host two artists in residence, currently based in the North East of England.
EACH SELECTED ARTIST WILL BE OFFERED:
- A private studio space for your residency (non-residential) for 20 days from 5 September until 27 January 2023.
- Professional development support from D6, arthereistanbul, MedeArts and Fanak Fund, and opportunities to meet our networks.
- A budget of £1750 (to cover production costs and materials).*
- Reimbursement of local travel and meal costs of up to £500 during the project.
- An additional budget to ensure information and communication is provided in an accessible format (for example: in translation to another language, large print, audio, braille).
- Participation in a 2-day workshop in Newcastle upon Tyne in November 2022 with a wider group of artists and producers/cultural operators from D6/ arthereistanbu/ MedeArts/ Fanak Fund, exploring the themes of ACT.
- Development of a digital presentation of your artworks.
- Local exhibition in Newcastle upon Tyne from February to March 2022 (dates and venue to be confirmed)

- Identify with a lived experience of forced migration, exile or displacement.
- Have (professional) experience in visual arts practice.
- Applicants must be over 18 and based in the North East of England at the time of application.
