D6: culture in transit

Beyond the Obvious, Budapest, 26th-28th, January 2017

In January 2017 our director Clymene Christoforou spoke on a panel at Beyond the Obvious in Budapest, the annual conference of Culture Action Europe. Beyond the Obvious 2017 'Europe, quo vadis?' explored challenges of the European project, from fragmentation and the rise of nationalism and xenophobia, to environmental challenges and the role of cities in creating alternatives.

Clymene sat on the panel session 'Fragmentation, nationalisms and culture', and was joined by Yamam Al-Zubaidi, Equality and Diversity Manager for Riksteatern, Sweden and Bel Olid, President of ALEC, Spain. The discussion contemplated the role of culture in an increasingly fragmented Europe, and how we as artists and cultural workers can be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.
