culturopolis - barcelona
CULTUROPOLIS was a meeting space for reflecting on and discussing cultural rights, thinking about how they are defined, and imagining and finding mechanisms that promote and guarantee them. This International Days on Cultural Rights was held between 16 and 19 November 2022. The conference was co-organised by the City of Barcelona, Culture Action Europe, the largest European network of cultural actors, and received support from the World Organisation of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG).
In November 2022, alongside other international examples of practice based projects addressing cultural rights, D6 was invited to present ACT, Artists Connecting in Transition (ACT), an international programme within our Sanctuary and Culture programme aimed at creating assistance, creativity and support environments for artists whose practice has been interrupted by forced migration. Funded by the British Council, ACT was a unique cultural collaboration for art and production professionals, centred on artistic practice and international exchange. It was framed in the main global challenges and inequalities around forced migration, exile and displacement. The programme’s central approach was based on collaboration and learning. ACT was a partnership between D6: Culture in Transit (UK), Arthereistanbul (Turkey), MedeArts (Jordan) and the Fanak Fund, which works in Arabic-speaking regions.
CULTUROPOLIS was open to local and international cultural agents and we presented under the Diversities strand which tackled the diversity of identities included in cultural rights (gender, sex, ethnicity, language, origin, background, etc.) and the difficulties that may be encountered with regard to freely experiencing this diversity.
