We learn from and share best practice at an international level focusing on the rights of artists whose practice has been disrupted by forced migration and the role of culture in supporting artists and communities with experience or heritage of migration or exile.
Collaboration is at the heart of ASSEMBLE, and we work closely with partners and artists to share and expand our knowledge, including our sister NGO in Cyprus D6:EU, Moving Artists (Spain), MedeArts (Jordan), arthereistanbul (Turkey) and the Fanak Fund (working across the Arab speaking world), as well as UK-based organisations such as the Scottish Refugee Council. And we are active members of On the Move - a network that supports artists and professionals to operate internationally.
The principles of cultural rights have been at the forefront of thinking which is informing how we work with and support artists. An United Nations report by the special rapporteur of cultural rights for the UN’s Human Rights Council underlines the rights of migrants to have access to and effectively participate in all aspects of cultural lives, both of the host state and their own cultures.
Through ASSEMBLE we champion cultural rights and aim to contribute to good practice and learning between artists in exile, cultural organisations and our wider communities.
