Building Cultural Ecologies in Times of Crisis
An international discussion on the climate emergency, displacement, care and creative practice marks the launch of ASSEMBLE, an arts programme connecting practitioners in the North East of England with a wider European network. As part of this collaboration, ASSEMBLE partners will join D6:EU in Cyprus for workshops and a public event.
How do we build cultural ecologies in response to oppression, erasure and displacement? What role can artists, curators, cultural organisations and communities play in fostering infrastructures of care and solidarity in times of crisis?
These questions underpin ASSEMBLE: In Conversation, a public panel taking place on Friday 12 June, 18:00–20:00 at Allilodidaskaleio – Education Hall, St Lazarus, Larnaka, Cyprus.
Organised by D6:EU in collaboration with Larnaka2030, the event introduces ASSEMBLE, a cultural project examining the climate emergency at the intersection of involuntary migration, conflict and ecological decline, with a focus on mobility and the right to move.
Guest speakers Julie Trébault (ARC – Artists at Risk Connection) and Alix Pornon (Cité internationale des arts) will join the discussion, exploring how cultural ecologies can be built and sustained in response to conditions of crisis and displacement.
Through panel discussion and audience exchange, participants will consider how cultural ecosystems are created and sustained in contexts marked by uncertainty, conflict and environmental change, and how creative practice can contribute to collective resilience and social transformation.

The event is open to artists, curators, cultural professionals, researchers, community organisers, organisations supporting displaced artists, and anyone interested in the intersections of culture, mobility and social change.
ASSEMBLE is led by by D6:EU (Cyprus), partners include Congress of Cultural Activists (Ukraine), Moving Artists (Spain) and the international mobility network On the Move, and associate partners: D6: Culture in Transit (UK), ARC – Artists at Risk Connection (France) and Larnaka2030 (Cyprus). ASSEMBLE is a Creative Europe programme funded by the European Union, and in the UK, it is supported by the Arts Council England.
