Love Up the Place: A Gathering of Joy and Solidarity
As we step into 2026, we look back on our closing event of the year - Love Up the Place: A Gathering of Joy and Solidarity. Thank you to everyone who joined us to make it an evening of warmth, laughter and shared creative practice.
Hugest of thanks to our fabulous contributors who brought creativity and connection. Company of Others' Walker Youth Dance Project for screening their stunning performance of Flying Above and telling us about their inspiration and passion for dance.
New Writing North's multi-lingual writing group World Writes for poetry, stories and the collaborative folktale The River that Forgot its Name, alongside their beautiful Bengali-Kantha inspired quilt.
English for All's students who celebrated what English learning means to them with personal testimonies, information about #loveESOL campaign and an invitation to write messages of hope on tree branches kindly provided by artist Henna Asikainen.
Tea blending with the Comfrey Project's CommuniTea table and Kaltouma’s delicious food provided nourishment and a chance to sit down over food and conversation. And we danced the night away with a brilliant live set from The Crossings Band.
Brought to you by D6: Culture in Transit, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and English for All, this event is part of our shared commitment as members of the Sanctuary and Culture Network to build a more inclusive, welcoming region for people seeking sanctuary in the North East.
It had collaboration at its heart with the wonderful team at Star and Shadow, our fantastic contributors and community.
Thanks to our funders and supporters including Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Arts Council England and Newcastle Cultural Investment Fund and BALTIC’s Community Fund.
